Matthews Research Grant
Charles W. and Elizabeth H. Matthews
Memorial Research Fund

In 1979, the Charles W. and Elizabeth H. Matthews Memorial Research Fund was established in memory of two dedicated individuals.

Elizabeth "Libby" Matthews served as the Patient Service Coordinator for the Kidney Foundation. As a child she experienced renal problems resulting in dialysis and a transplant at the Medical College of Ohio in 1975. Through her own experience, Libby dedicated her efforts to educating others, particularly students, to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease. To the parents, she bought guidance, hope, and understanding.

Charles W. Matthews served as the Athletic Director of Bowsher High School from 1969 to 1979. Charlie became involved with the Kidney Foundation when Libby, his daughter, started her fight against kidney disease. Charlie gave generously of his time and support to the many activities of the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio.

It is the hope of all of us involved in the fight against kidney disease, that through these grants, the answers to chronic renal disease will be found.
